Daddy plays hooky

After a bit of prodding, Amiel agreed to ditch work and join us for Mr. Singer's weekly zoo concert. Gilie drove out from the burbs, Jacob tagged along for the ride and a fabulous time was had by all.
Daddy and Elijah enjoyed the music
After the show, we visited the zoo's organic garden
Gilie helped the little ones weed
Jake & Lili looked cute in their matching outfits

After the show, Amiel dashed back to work while Gilie and I took the boys to the farmer's market for lunch (cheese and herb-filled crepes) and shopping (the gorgeous, pink peonies were my favorite find).

Dumpster diving

Am guessing that Lincoln Park lists amongst the top Chicago neighborhoods for dumpster diving. While taking Elijah for a stroll, Amiel and I noted several large boxes sitting beside an overflowing garbage can. Sticking out of one box was a collection of unopened wrapping paper. We figured that anyone who would throw away perfectly nice wrapping paper might toss something else of interest. So we pried open a nearby box and found a framed piece of Dr. Seuss artwork encased in bubble-wrap. It had a Dr. Seuss Art certificate of authenticity on the back and the caption reads, "There's so, so much to read." Rescued from the dumpster, the artwork now graces the wall above Elijah's bookshelf.
